International texting to United Kingdom is blocked by UK legislation

Starting June 1, 2023, the United Kingdom changed its texting regulations, creating restrictions on texting UK phone numbers from foreign countries. International SMS/MMS sent from applications (A2P), such as smrtPhone, are blocked.

A2P text messages from non-UK numbers to UK numbers (+44 country code) will be blocked. Domestic messages UK-to-UK are still allowed.

These new changes affect UK-based clients who currently receive SMS from other countries (e.g. the United States) as well as clients based outside of the UK who want to text UK phone numbers.

If you have a history of exchanging text messages with folks in other countries, you'll need to update your practices. For US contacts, it's pretty easy: simply purchase a UK number and use that for messaging. Most countries have restrictions on obtaining local phone numbers.
