Securing a local or Toll-Free U.S. phone number can happen in an instant through smrtPhone. Buying a local or Toll-Free number outside of the U.S. often comes with additional documentation requirements.

If you are looking to buy a number in the European Union (EU), United Kingdom (UK), South America, Central America, Asia, Africa, or the Middle East, please be prepared for extra regulatory requirements.

Address

Most non-U.S. countries require a legal address within the country to be able to obtain a local phone number at a minimum. Some require the address to be verified, which can take several business days and may require additional documentation.

For countries that simply require an address on file but do not require additional documentation, you can enter your local business address in the Address section of your Admin Panel, and we will use a third party to verify it.

Other Identifying Information

In addition to a physical address, some countries require legal verification documentation. These documents can only be submitted by the smrtPhone team, and you will need to contact Support through our live chat to start the process.

The list of possible requirements include (but is not limited to):

  • Business Registration documentation

  • Tax ID number

  • Representative identification: government-issued ID or passport

  • Proof of address: examples include a deed, rental receipt, utility bill, etc.

  • Letter of Declaration/Letter of Authorization: a signed letter stating the presented information is true

How to Submit Verification Documentation

The requirements vary by country and by type of phone number (local, mobile, or toll-free). If you would like to purchase a number outside of the U.S., the most efficient way is to contact smrtPhone Support through live chat.

We will look up the verification requirements for the country in question. Once you supply the needed documentation, we will prepare and submit a regulatory bundle on your behalf.

While we work to make this happen as quickly as possible, we cannot control the speed of verification once the documentation is submitted. It could be up to 10 business days. The good news is that once you are verified, the purchase of phone numbers in that country will be instantaneous.

Keep in mind that based on the newest US texting regulations, you need to verify all your numbers used for texting, whether local or Toll-Free. Also, some Non-US states might require different registration.
